We first met Megan + Quentin in person, over drinks at a Mexican spot in Kitsilano, Vancouver. They chose the location, and coincidentally it was a place I used to love when I lived in Kits years earlier. It’s not a trendy place at all, in fact it’s completely unpretentious and unapologetic in it’s simplicity. It offers a very reliable, warm environment to share a bite and a drink and great conversation on a summer evening with friends. At this point in getting to know Megan + Quentin (after several email and Skype chats), this choice really solidified our affection for them, and confirmed our guesses at the kind of people they are, and the kind of event their wedding day would be – we were excited. Planning a wedding is no small feat, but planning one from across the country is a whole other animal. Several revisions to the plan, a few flights back and forth to Ottawa from Vancouver, and I’m sure countless hours later, Megan and Quentin designed and executed the most perfect backyard wedding we have ever attended. It was overflowing with beautiful personal details, warm glowy light, incredible food, gorgeous florals and decor, and even scented candles throughout that added yet another layer of experience to the evening. No element was neglected, and it gave the entire day and night the feeling that everyone in attendance was being thought of and deeply appreciated. Many touching words were shared, and tears flowed freely (as did a lot of laughter). The evening wound up with a packed dance floor (the back-deck of Quentin’s Grandmother’s home) and a beautiful bright moon beaming down on the celebration.
